City wall of Jaipur
It’s not hard to understand why Jaipur is called the pink city when one sees the city walls! Built in 1727 when the city was founded by Maharaja Jai Singh II, the walls encircling most of the old city are around six metres high and are pierced by seven gates. This photos shows the Ajmeri Gate to the north of the city, which is the entry for Kishanpole Bazaar. The three arches are finely decorated with floral motifs, with mythological figures above the central door.
